Zaph Mann It's hard to be unique in the folk idiom - vocal quality but with inventiveness that doesn't detract, in fact the location field recordings add a dimension of intimacy that sweeps the listener up and into a real place - albeit imagined Favorite track: Lass O' The Lecht.

fearsatan This is truly excellent work - an exhilarating fusion of North-East Scottish ballads, electronics and field recordings. Particularly interesting is the connected gps map of the locations, intensifying the sense of place integral to the songs. In some ways it reminds me of the pioneering work done by the late, wonderful Martyn Bennett. Really glad I discovered this through a Guardian review.

RATED FOUR STARS, IN THE GUARDIAN'S ROUNDUP OF THE MOST UNDER-RATED ALBUMS OF 2022

Inspired by the folklore, landscape, language and rich balladry tradition of North East Scotland, each track on "Sand, Silt, Flint" is linked to a specific location and its story, with five new arrangements of traditional ballads, and five new compositions.

Each song is accompanied by a geo-located sound-walk in the "Echoes" mobile app - the audio is triggered by GPS, enabling listeners to experience the songs in the environments which inspired them.
